After the last update and playtest build we received an abundance of feedback and helpful comments via our feedback questionnaires. The team and I are thankful, you're all awesome!
This update was primarily focused on fixing issues and bugs found in the previous version and expanding the overall content and depth of the game, this was notably focused on trialling the new City environment level where this demo takes place alongside 8 new weapons 3 new shields and around 15+ new enemy variants to destroy.
Changes made:
Audio
- Created new sound effects for blood Impact sounds
- Created new sound effects for Metal Impact sounds
- Created new sound effects for Ghost Impact sounds
- Created new sound effects for Bone Impact sounds
- Created new sound effects for Wood Impact sounds
- Created new ambient audio for Nighttime city and Sewer
- Created new damage sounds for orc type enemies
- Tweaked radius and volume of 3D ambient sounds to affect a larger radius
AI
- Created 15 new enemy variants with different weapons and appearances
- Created a new type of long-range melee enemy
- Created a new type of shielded enemy
- There's now a delay before some enemies move to or away from the player
- Enemies can now play multiple different animations at the same time
- Enemies now look ready to attack after spotting the player
- Enemies now occasionally circle the player's position when waiting to attack
Environment/assets
- New City environment
- Bloom and post-processing
- Multiple avenues of approach to complete the level
- Side areas off the beaten path with more loot and weapons to find
- New lamp prefab to add additional lighting
- 9 New weapons with own stats and animation sets
- 3 new shields with their own damage absorption values
Player
- Moved the lock-on position above enemies so the camera doesn't zoom in as much when getting close to enemies
- Increased the player's base stamina as a result of more powerful weapons
- Increased the player's base health as a result of more powerful enemies
- Added a delay before the player's stamina starts regenerating
- Stamina regenerates slower
- Sprint & Rolling are no longer a shared input. Space to roll, Shift to sprint
- Being hit while blocking now does stamina damage, preventing using a shield indefinitely to prevent damage
- Camera speeds tweaked. Especially the horizontal camera pivot speed.
- Rolling while locked, and moving either left or right, will make the player dash in that corresponding direction, providing I-frames
- Altered animations that would cause the camera to stutter on certain attacks
- Added the trail VFX when punching with fists
UI
- Implementation of additional icons for new weapons and shields
- Created equipment slots for spells and potions
- Added a scroll bar to the player's inventory
- Now highlighting all selectable UI elements when using a controller
- Now highlighting compatible equipment slots after selecting an item within the inventory
- Controllers can now select, equip and unequip items within the inventory screen
- Inventory can now be opened via the "I" key separately to the pause menus.
VFX
- A new visual effect appears when the player can chain an attack to create a combo
- Created VFX for large background fires
- Reduced overall particle amount for certain fire effects
- Added a red effect around the screen on death
- VFX Impact effects for various collisions.
Other
- Game settings are now saved!
- Disabled enemy wave system (since it's not clear what's happening)
- Disabled souls being dropped for the player (it's bugged)
- Gamepads now have haptic feedback
Fixes:
- Fixed a bug when reloading the scene caused performance drops
- Fixed a bug where dying reset the games lighting settings
- Fixed bugs related to certain attack animations causing characters to clip through the level
- Fixed bug that made shields unable to block
- Fixed correct VFX not playing when impacting certain enemies
- Fixed bug with certain attack animations causing the player to get stuck in place
- Fixed issue with AI spawning inside walls
- Fixed bug where the user can't roll after opening doors
- Fixed enemies not being able to detect that the player is alive after they've respawned
- Fixed destroying an equipment slot's item when equipping a new item on top of it.
- Fixed several null reference errors
- Fixed drag and drop functionality in the inventory screen not working
- Fixed other various inventory interactions issues.
- Fixed enemies trying to access the navigation mesh when they're not standing on it
- Fixed enemies playing their walking animation and walking audio after death
- Fixed wrong camera sensitivity value being set when closing a menu
- Fixed enemies playing attack animations in slow motion
- Fixed enemies breaking after the player respawns
- Fixed the inventory's equip button not working
- Fixed bug that would freeze the player in place after an attack
- Fixed player being able to attack and move when a menu is open
- Fixed item models not being deleted when unequipping items.
