Eternal: Update 0.2

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been hard at work to review modify and improve our game based on the feedback received from generous playtesters who filled in our google forms and gave us feedback via other means.

This update was primarily focused on ironing out some of the bugs that were reported as well as improving overall user experience, refining feedback sources within the game: Such as cues for when players are dealing damage to enemies.

Changes made:

Audio

  • Created new sound effects for skeletons
  • Created new ambient audio for item pickups and tutorial hints
  • Created new impact sounds for the skeleton and ghost enemies
  • Changed volume of some  sfx, to reduce the number of overlapping sounds
  • slightly  reduced default audio level

AI

  • Enemies can now play several different animation events whilst idling
  • Enemies now only surround the player when within a certain distance
  • Enemies forget the player's position quicker
  • Removed damage grunt from skeletons
  • Navmesh object collisions edits to improve ai pathing and reduce clipping through assets

Environment

  •  Optimised level areas with additional rocks to reduce the number of tris in the level and increase performance 
  • Render pipeline tweaks for lighting to allow for more accurate light shadows
  • Lighting placement to help direct players towards well-lit areas and the end of the demo

Player

  • Animation tweaks to "Royal spear"  "butcher cleaver" to make hitting enemies in certain complex animations more accurate
  • Increased character speed while moving and rolling
  • Stopped the camera from moving when a menu is open
  • Locked left hand slots to shields

UI

  • Changed font to be more readable
  • Improved alignment and scaling of some UI elements
  • Increased transparency to some UI pop-up elements
  • New UI assets to spruce up the colour in the HUD and menus and also make items less stretched
  • Increased the range for the sensitivity slider
  • Made prompts for pickups display the key needed to interact with pickups
  • Hidden the cursor outside of menus
  • Added ability to drag and drop items around the inventory
  • Items can be moved directly from one equipment slot to another
  • Added a text prompt to unequip items
  • Inventory/equipment windows are highlighted when selecting items
  • Compatible items are highlighted after selecting an equipment slot, and vice verse
  • Added a copy of the souls counter to the inventory screen

VFX

  • Item pickup VFX now represent the type of item that will be obtained

Fixes:

  • Performance increased and frame drops removed when exiting the cave zone area
  • Player can move after drinking a potion
  •  Attacks can now be chained quicker than before rather than having to wait for the animation to fully finish
  • Partially fixed menu compatibility issues with controllers
  • Lots of null reference errors
  • Occlusion culling update to reduce the likelihood of visual glitches


This demo is still a WIP and fixes to bugs such as interacting with objects is still being worked on and will be posted along with future updates.
